The Pacific Mountain West women's college playoffs will be held in Albuquerque, NM this weekend, but not all the teams will be there.
Colorado State University has been slammed with injuries, which put them down to 15 players. When another player was not cleared for competition, the team decided it could not compete short-handed.
"We were running pretty low on numbers this season, but the team was training pretty hard to be ready for playoffs," said coach Jenna Middleton. "We all wanted to make it work, but injuries took their toll and we didn't feel it was smart or safe to attend with only 14 healthy players."
This shuffles the lineup of games. Top-seeded New Mexico will now get a bye, and UCLA takes on Arizona State in Saturday's semifinal. The winner will take on New Mexico on Sunday at UNM's varsity soccer fields.
The fact the UNM has opened up its varsity soccer fields to this event is a big step forward for the Lady Lobos program, which has struggled to get support from the administration.
