Stony Brook will be replacing Rutgers at this weekend's Women's DII National Championship playoffs in Princeton, N.J.

Rutgers, the Northeast #3 seed, was set to play Norwich in the round of 16 this Saturday, until campus security caught players drinking alcohol at a Rutgers men's game on university grounds. The school suspended the women's team until May, according to Rutgers coach Mike Ross, thus ending the women's team season.
Multiple schools were contacted in hopes of quickly replacing Rutgers - Bowdoin, Rhode Island, Mary Washington - but teams couldn't assemble quickly enough or compete safely, and had to decline.
Stony Brook finally accepted the open invitation. The Long Island team will initiate their first-ever nationals trip against Northeast champion Norwich. In the fall, SBU finished 3-3, with their 28-27 win over Vassar highlighting the season. The Seawolves have been playing games since early March and traveled to Pennsylvania last weekend for friendlies against MARFU #2 Temple (32-10 loss) and La Salle (20-13 loss).
It's highly unlikely that SBU will beat the Cadets on Saturday, but at least Norwich isn't receiving a bye through the round of 16. Many kudos to the Seawolves for stepping up and filling out the bracket, making for a more even competition. Stay tuned for breaking results on Saturday.
