MARFU Women College Semis Set
Colleges - Women's College

The MARFU DII Women's Quarterfinals were all chalk, as George Washington, Shippensburg, Mary Washington and Temple, all hosts as the higher seed in their respective matches, advanced to next weekend's semifinals.

George Washington snuck past Lasalle 13-5, getting tries from wing Alyssa Mizell, prop Lily Olson and hooker Tricia Nowlan. Nowlan got the high-scorer title by slotting a penalty goal as well.

Awaiting GW in the semifinals will be 2010 national runners-up Temple, who also won a close one Saturday, 10-5 over William & Mary. Though the Owls won by a single score, their defense was staunch, not allowing William & Mary past the halfway line until about the 25th minute. "We are very confident in our defense following today," said Temple coach Owen Jones. "This week will be focused on finishing the attack."

On the other side of the bracket, Shippensburg ran away with the only lopsided win of the weekend, pounding American 46-10. Shippensburg coach Scott Stratton deflected praise to American after the win. "I can tell you that we had a very balanced attack and were on the side of some very lucky bounces," he said. "AU played a great game and had some nice plays especially from their forwards."

Awaiting Shippensburg in the semis is Virginia champ Mary Washington, which ousted Salisbury 17-5. Salisbury and Mary Washington's men's teams also square off in the MARFU semis next weekend. The men meet at Longwood University, while the women play at Shippensburg.
