At most, women's DII clubs have a week of league play left, and in most regions, playoff teams have already been named. The Midwest, South and Pacific Coast kick off their territorial playoffs this weekend. The Midwest is the largest region in terms of participating DII teams, and begins knock-outs with divisional semifinals. In the Eastern Division, Eastern Conference champ and last year's national finalist, Pittsburgh, hosts Southern Conference #2 Dayton. Scioto Valley (Southern Conference #1) hosts Buffalo (Eastern Conference #2). The two victors will move onto the Midwest Championship (Oct. 27-28) and play the winners of the Western Division semifinals: Wisconsin (Central #2) @ Twin Cities B (Northern #1), and Minneapolis Menagerie (Northern #2) @ Milwaukee Scylla (Central #1). The South held its matrix season in the spring, so teams have been preparing for this weekend's championship for months. However, some creative thinking has been necessary to ensure the South Championship came off fairly. Instead of awarding any buys, Jacksonville and Charleston will compete for the fourth play-in seed, and the winner will duke it out with #1 seed Knoxville in the semifinals. Meanwhile, #2 Memphis will play #3 Miami for the title berth. Finally, the Pacific Coast will determine who moves onto nationals after Nor Cal #1 Sacramento Amazons and Pacific Northwest champ Portland play this Saturday in Tacoma, Wash. The Geographic Unions competing toward the Northeast seeds - Empire and New England - concluded regular play last weekend. NRUs will be contested Oct. 27-28 and will see Empire champ Monmouth take on Burlington, and New England champ Beantown B face Morris during the semifinals. 2012 marks the first year that Beantown B is eligible to compete at playoffs, and the side will be hosting NRUs. There is one more week of play in the Mid-Atlantic and West. In MARFU, those final games truly matter. While Severn River and Norfolk are guaranteed spots in the post-season, the race for number two in both the North and South divisions is heated. In the North, Chesapeake and Harrisburg are tied on points AND point differential. The two squads face each other this weekend and the victor will continue their trek toward nationals. In the South, Raleigh and James River are battling for the post-season bid, and this weekend's outcome will determine who moves on. But in all likelihood, reigning national champion Raleigh will defeat NOVA 2, and Norfolk will knock out James River this Saturday. There's still a week of regular season play left in the West, but that final match is between two teams with no playoff hopes. There is only one post-season game in the West, where the winners of the Central and Southern leagues compete for the national seed. The Kansas City Jazz has clinched the Central bid, while the Albuquerque Atomic Sisters and Boulder Babes - the only two teams in the Southern League - split their two games. The Sisters had the better point differential, so they'll see the Jazz on Oct. 21.
