Jillion Potter for the USA. Ian Muir photo. Australia and the USA battled close in Round 3 of the London Women 7s, but the defending World Cup champs ran away with it late 22-5.

The Aussies scored two early tries, but Vanesha McGee got one back just before the end of the first to bring the Eagles within a try. But they couldn't get any closer.

After playing superbly against China this was a blow for the USA as it changes their seeding for the Cup QFs.

They do make that final eight anyway, and will face Australia again.
