South Africa shut out the USA in the opening match of the New Zealand 7s in Wellington Friday (local time).

The Springboks got first-half tries from Steven Hunt and Cecil Afrika and Afrika added another midway through the second half to seal the 21-0 victory.

Garrett Bender made his debut for the USA, coming on with less than three minutes to go.
