Scotland defeated the USA 26-0 in the Bowl Final, logging their second straight shutout against the Americans.
The game was much closer than that early on, and the USA had two supreme chances to score midway through the first half, when it was only 5-0 Scotland. On both occasions, one after another, the Eagles opted to cut back into traffic instead of passing to a wide open Mark Bokhoven. Matt Hawkins was able to recycle, but Peter Tiberio’s effort resulted in a knock-on in-goal.
The mistake hurt, as Scotland won the scrum and did very well to work their way downfield and score to make it 12-0.
The Eagles kept pressing well into the second half, but couldn’t break the Scottish defense. A very promising attack from their own 22 up to Scotland’s ended when Mark Bokhoven and Nick Edwards, together, were shoved into touch.
Scotland scored again with about five minutes to go and then again with time frittering away. It was a frustrating game for the Americans, because they had opportunities, but didn’t use them.
Tries: Turnbull 3, Gregor
Convs: Gregor 3
The USA< however, rescued their Dubai effort with two good victories on Day Two. By doing that they earned seven points in the new points system, ranking them quite clearly in 11th place in the HSBC Sevens World Series.
