Note that Tyler Ardron is a late scratch due to illness. Tough blow for Canada as he is arguably their best player. Jebb Sinclair moves from lock to blindside flank, and Jon Phelan steps in at lock. No word yet on who takes Phelan's place on the bench - Note, Sean Duke, a back, steps in at #19.
JP Doyle is Ireland is referee.
Sunny but not that hot in T-Dot today.
USA kicks off and they tie up Canada in a maul. But penalty against Eagles and Harry Jones kicks to almost midfield
Todd Clever steals overthrown ball at back and already much better from USA ... quick ball and forwards challenge Canadian defense. Nice work from Andrew Suniula and Taku Ngwenya too. USA makes ground and get penalty ...
Slight wait for referee to fix something. OK we're good. USA wins lineout and another penalty against Canada. Already a warning for Canada captain Aaron Carpenter - Canada took lifter out. Another lineout for USA.
Ball overthrown but net wash for USA as Canada kicks to touch.
USA attacks. Several attempt to punch it up. Finally L'Estrange held up. Scrum to Canada. USA within five meters of line, but nor further.
5 MINUTES USA 0 Canada 0
Free Kick against Canada for taking too long to put it in. Eagles try quick tap and out to Luke Hume but it's called back.
More forward surges by Eagles. So very close. Ball held up or not coming out of ruck. Scrum to USA. Eightman pick to the right? Let's see Todd Clever take it over.
Not to be. Canada wheels the scrum and regains the put-in - Clever bumped into his lock.
Canada tries to run it out. LaValla takes his man into touch. USA spent about six or seven minutes in Canada 22 with nothing.
9 MINUTES TRY USA ?
Ball won off the top in the lineout and quickly out to backs. They run Andrew Suniula on a crash and then out to Chris Biller, who worms his way through three tacklers. Great score by Eagles. Going to TMO ...to check on the grounding. Eagles had six players in support.
Ciaran Hearn did a great job to hold that up. Too bad, Biller had so much support. Scrum USA, but Canada gets a free kick.
Kick to touch for Canada.
Yet another mistake for USA, as they win the lineout but now a scrum to Canada.
But Canada has problems - feeding the scrum.
11 MINUTES USA 0 Canada 0
Mistake on a pass by USA, Canada boot the ball downfield. Their first foray into USA territory. Ngwenya tries to run it out but it stopped.
Nice box kick to touch from Robbie Shaw.
USA will rue theinability to score in that opening sequence.
More lineout problems for Canada, who do not have a backup hooker.
USA attacks - Clever gathers that ball again.
Smart move by L'Estrange - kicks to corner and USA chase pushes Canada into touch.
Attacking lineout USA.
But sloppy play. Dahl drops a ball pass right to him. Scrum to Canada about 18 meters from Canada line.
Canada tries to kick but LaValla charges it down. Somehow Canada gets it back and kicks.
Hume gets it deep in his own end and runs, weaves, runs some more ... just a little late in his offload and Canada regain.
Hume almost through, slips, but recycles well, quick ball out to Ngwenya. The wing breaks a tackle, almost falls and is in
16:40 TRY USA
Smart play by USA. All started with a long kick downfield from Blaine Scully. Chase was better. USA working hard, but also more as a unit. After Hume run, quick ball and Shaw passes directly to Ngwenya. Dummy to Clever and in he goes.
Tough Conversion for Wyles. He misses.
18 MINUTES USA 5 Canada 0

24 MINUTES USA 5 Canada 8

Canada running it. Carpenter in from side but no call.
Break by Jones for Canada. As he looks for support he is taken down by Scully, and drops it.
Eric Fry is down.
He's back up and scrum commences
Scrum falls and we re-set.
Canada obviously trying to pull this scrum down. Robbie Shaw begging for a penalty.
Referee Doyle switches sides for a better view.
Finally we get a scrum and Wyles kicks to touch.
29 MINUTES USA 5 CANADA 8
USA forces drop. Scully looking very solid on defense today.
Good crash with Suniula. Penalty against Canada for being offside. Big penalty, really, because USA was struggling to get out of their half, and Wyles kicks to touch for a lineout on Canada 22.
BUT they turn it over. Canada comes back and kick deep. Hume recovers, but a box kick from L'Estrange sets up a run from Van Der Merwe. But his pass is dropped. A bit of an escape for USA.
Scrum to USA and Canada is penalized for walking around - meaning they pulled off the scrum to make it seem they had wheeled it.
Lineout USA, but L'Estrange drops the pass. Yikes, USA can't win for losing here. They have ball. Their time in the Canada 22 has been huge, but they keep losing the ball.
Well Canada can do it too - unnecessary knock-on in the backs.
Jebb Sinclair needed to claim that one.
BUT ... Penalty against USA in scrum for collapsing the scrum to avoid the wheel. Nice kicking opportunity for Pritchard.
Wow, well the sun rises in the West. Pritchard misses it - just off the post. Very uncharacteristic by the Canadian fullback.
USA run from 22 dropout and do really well. Shawn Pittman! Big run. Canadians are offside. Big turnaround sparked by Clever taking the quick dropout.
Wyles signals for posts about 40 meters out.
It's a lovely kick. Ties it up.
HALFTIME USA 8 CANADA 8
Soon we'll restart. USA still 18 points behind in this two-match series, but they are playing better. Not dropping the ball helps, though.

Wyles sets this up about 26 meters out and a bit to the left side. ... he misses
46 MINUTES USA 8 CANADA 8
Wyles would have liked to get that one.
Canada takes a lineout and then get a penalty as Brian Doyle is pinged for tackling the Canadian jumper in the air. Canada lineout at USA 22.
They go short. Nice defense by USA - Lou Stanfill big play.
But Peter Dahl is in trouble ...
Canada thinks they've scored but obviously there was a knock-on. But there's a penalty for a high tackle on the USA #7.
Meanwhile USA prop Eric Fry comes off and Titi Lamositele comes on.
Canada lineout. They set up the maul.
Scott LaValla penalized for coming into the maul from the side. Canada obviously truck and trailer there but the penalty stands.
Canada take scrum.
And ... Penalty against Canada for a hand in the scrum pushing the ball back (which you're not allowed to do).
So USA avoid a try-scoring opportunity for Canada.
53 MINUTES USA 8 CANADA 8
USA take a lineout but then muff the throw. Bad mistake. Canada still on front foot.
USA defend Canada through about nine phases. Pittman strips ball out and then Shaw passes back to Hume, who sends a very nice kick into the Canadian half.
Petri on for Shaw
Dolan on for Stanfill. LaValla in to lock
High ball by USA. Ball dropped by Canada but called a knocvk-on by USA (Blaine Scully). Obviously wrong call. Actually a really horrible call. Chris Wyles puts his hands to his mouth to prevent himself from saying something rash. USA had people there and could have made something of this.
USA attack but penalized for infraction in the ruck. Again, hard to see how there's no penalty for Canada not rolling away.
Canada attacks. Go wide left then wide right. Desperate wild tackling from USA.
Canada in at corner but surely this is touch-in-goal.
Very unfortunate as USA got a bunch of calls against them that were harsh or wrong.
On replay, the try looks good. Jason Marshall gets the ball down JUST before touchline.
60 MINUTES TRY CANADA
USA 8 CANADA 13

Penalty - Canada no-wrap tackle.
Another warning from Doyle.

Canada runs it out, are pushed into touch. Quick lineout. Penalty to USA but no one hears the whistle!
Ball booted downfield and Taku Ngwenya rescues and tries to run it out all alone. Finally they realize this is all a non-play!
OK, penalty to USA in the Canada 22.
Wyles sets up the kick and it's good.
66:40 MINUTES USA 11 CANADA 13
Forget about the qualifier ... this is an exciting game.
Hrayama on for Pritchard.
Heard Referee JP Doyle tell Todd Clever that Nanyak Dala got a yellow card. No one noticed until later, though.
ASBUN on for DAHL
FENOGLIO on for BILLER
Canada goes through phases, but USA defends and Ngwenya forces a holding-on penalty.
USA kicks to touch.
Lineout all nice, but ball off the top from LaValla in front of Petri, and he can't handle it. Classic USA mistake in attack zone.
Sweet little box kick with Dolan running on. Goes to touch, but a good one, anyway.
USA looking good on attack. Offload from Niua not taken from Lamositele. But he is tackled around the head. No call. That has to be a penalty, but is not.
Blood Sub Nick Blevins, who made a massive tackle and looks dazed. Phil Mackenzie on.
74:30 MINUTES USA 11 CANADA 13
USA attack again. Very useful. Niua (sorry announced as Roland Suniula but not) and Wyles make their way in. But another turnover in the red zone (or is it the green zone? The attacking 22 is what we mean).
USA still has time but Canada will take their time.
Penalty to USA for not rolling away. Wyles is lining this up. Two minutes to go. He hits this the USA takes the lead.
Tough kick from the left side for the left-footed Wyles. tight angle and between 22 and 10-meter.
One minute to go.
USA has one more surge.
But they turn it over ... and that's it. Canada escapes the USA 13-11 and qualify for the Rugby World Cup.
The USA will have to play Uruguay next year.
Better by the USA. Much better. But again they cannot string phases together.
The stats will show they dominated possession and territory, but not the scoreline.
