Clever Happy with Start; Wants More
National Teams - USA Men

USA captain Todd Clever is pleased with how the November series of tests kicked off, that being the 40-26 defeat of Russia, but he knows more will be needed.

Todd Clever on the attack against Russia. Ian Muir photo."I am really proud of the whole squad," said Clever, who is reportedly healthy to play Saturday against Tonga after leaving early against the Russians after a knock to the face. "It was a good way to start the tour."

Tonga looked strong in a tough 28-23 loss to Italy this weekend. That result implies they and the USA aren't that far off - the Eagles pushed italy in their last two matches as well.

However, USA Head Coach Mike Tolkin said he wants to see a little more precision on the line breaks, and a more complete defensive effort than the team showed against the Russians.

Clever echoed those sentiments, referring to the final quarter of the game, when a 33-9 lead became a 40-26 final score.

"The biggest thing is that we need to focus and play for the whole 80 minutes," Clever said. "If we let off the gas or have any miss assignments Tonga will punish us."
