| Halftime USA v Italy |
| National Teams - USA Men |
|
Italy leads the USA 20-10 at halftime of their 2011 Rugby World Cup match Tuesday, Sept. 27 in Nelson, New Zealand. Italy has mastered the scrum over the USA, but the Eagles have got to feel as if they are playing against 16 players, as referee George Clancy has refused to penalize Italy for early shoves on the scrum, managed to block John van der Giessen from making what would have been a key tackle, failed to penalize a deliberate knock-on that was more obvious than Blaine Scully's four days ago, and then missed two double-movements in the buildup to Italy's third try. Chris Wyles has all of the USA's scored with a try, conversion, and penalty. The try was set up by an astounding run by Paul Emerick, who broke through four tacklers before offloading to his fullback. |
