France and Scotland move onto the USA 7s Shield championship, having eliminated Brazil and Uruguay during their semifinals.
Les Bleus and Brazil kicked off the Shield semifinals on day three in Las Vegas. France found themselves in the bottom tier of competition after a 21-5 Bowl quarterfinal loss to the USA, while Brazil bowed to 50-0 to Australia yesterday.
But Brazil came out of the gates eager to score, and Erick Cogliandro dotted down for the game’s first try. Daniel Hubert Gregg’s conversion gave the South Americans the 7-0 lead.
The deficit snapped the French to attention, and the rest of the game belonged to Les Bleus. Jean Baptiste Belanger led all point scorers with 10 on two tries, while Jonathan Laugel, Manoel Dall Igna and Terry Bouhraoua added five-pointers. Thibault Zambelli (3) and Paul Albaladejo handled the conversions.
Scotland frequented the try zone even more so in their 40-12 semifinal win over Uruguay, but showed some fatigue in the waning minutes of the game.
But before Scotland surrendered tries to Felipe Berchesi and Santiago Arocena, Andrew Turnbull ran in three tries. Hamish Watson, Sean Kennedy and Byron McGuigan also touched down, while Colin Gregor converted five of six tries.
The Shield final between Scotland and France takes place in less than two hours.
