San Francisco Golden Gate may have already defeated OPSB in the Super League regular season, but SFGG captain and flanker Danny LaPrevotte knows overconfidence can give some nasty payback.

“I think that this game this weekend is going to be a pretty competitive game,” said LaPrevotte, who also remembers that SFGG were training OPSB in the early stages of their first meeting. “The Seattle guys will be ready for us.”

LaPrevotte, true to his nature, would like not to have had a week off between the end of the regular season and the playoffs. He just wanted to play.

“I’m more of a fan of not having a week off,” he said. “I would have liked to play a game, and keep the continuity going. Hopefully we’re keep that continuity and the week off won’t affect us.”

The captain echoes his coach Paul Keeler’s approach that SFGG doesn’t scout opposing teams too much.

“If we play the way we can play, it won’t matter who we’re playing,” he said. “I don’t think about the opposition too much. You do discuss strengths and weaknesses, but we talk about ourselves more. For us, I don’t think we’ve played a full 80 minutes yet. We’ve had spots of good play, but not a full 80.”

A full 80 and stay in the pattern.

“We just need to play to our pattern,” La Prevotte added. “Sometimes we go outside of our pattern and it doesn’t work for us. In playoff rugby you have to stick to your pattern for 80 minutes. A lot of people call us a first-half team but then we’ve had games, like in Seattle, where we had a better second half. I think it’s just a matter of staying focused.”
