Super Subs See AC Through
Clubs - Elite Cup / RSL

The New York Athletic Club overcame a less-than-perfect first half to defeat the Dallas Harlequins 43-3 in Dallas Saturday.

The game was closer and more competitive than the score indicates, as the teams changed ends with NYAC up only 7-3. Slightly muddy conditions and a stiff breeze kept the AC in check, but they also made their share of mistakes in a performance that left plenty of room for improvement.

With the wind at their backs NYAC started to play for territory. Even so they were put under pressure by Dallas and had to work hard to get back into scoring position.

Fullback Chris Chapman scored on a movement started by a Mike Petri kick ahead, and he ended up with two tries. Center Alan MacGinty scored a try and added four conversions, while hooker Conor Coyne, flyhalf Steve Evans, center Steve Annunziato, and sub prop Mike Schacter also touched down.

Schacter’s try was just reward for the subs, who re-energized the AC effort.

“The subs were the story,” said NYAC Coach Bruce McLane. “We made a lot of changes in the second half and they played very well.”
