SFGG Gets by Santa Monica at the Death
Clubs - Top Club Leagues

SFGG defeated Santa Monica on a last-second try from Tai Enosa to win their first PRP game in three attempts Saturday.

Down 32-31, SFGG mounted a furious attack that ended with Enosa getting by the desperate Dolphins defenders for the game-clincher.

For SFGG Head Coach Alex Houser, it was a big result.

"The guys really put in the work this past week and brought that menality and attitude to the field today," said Houser. "We made some simple errors, too, and Santa Monica really makes you pay for mistakes. But the guys really bounced back."

Houser said that SFGG has been winning so much in recent years that very few of the players have lost two in a row. It was humbling. But led by a solid game from flanker Opeti Okusi, and with Brendan Daly also playing well, they mustered a victory that keeps them in the hunt for the league title.

Santa Monica, meanwhile, secured their fourth close-loss bonus point, a dubious honor they certainly would like to convert into victories.

SFGG scored at the death to win a difficult road game 38-32 against Santa Monica Saturday to move to 5-2.

Glendale scored three times when Belmont Shore was shorthanded (at one time being down to 12 players) to come back and beat Shore 34-25. They move to 6-1.

The Denver Barbarians jump to third with a 34-20 defeat of Olympic Club. Both the Denver and Glendale games were played in cold, snowy conditions, and both games featured a red card for the losers.

Santa Monica, now 1-6, has lost four games by a try or less.

Glendale Beats SHorthanded Belmont
Clubs - Top Club Leagues

The Glendale Raptors came back late to beat Belmont Shore 34-25 in a showy, slushy Infinity Park in Glendale Saturday.

The Raptors trailed for most of the game, but with 20 minutes to go Shore started to get into serious penalty trouble. A red card, then a yellow for a dangerous tackle, and a yellow for mouthing off put Shore down to 12 men as they protected a 25-15 lead.

Shore had torched Glendale early with some powerful runners, and te pick of their tries was Pati Uiagalelei wrong-footing everyone in the slush and making the remaining Glendale defenders very wary of bringing him down.

That was too much to ask. And while in a goal line stand Belmont appeared to have forced a dropped ball and perhaps mounted a counter-attack, they were called back for a scrum infringement. Soon thereafter Glendale scored through No. 8 Zac Pauga on an uncontested eightman pick. That made it 25-22, and then good ball movement put Christian Saramento in under the posts, and after that Dustin Croy capped off another well-run movement.

The Belmont team was just too tested having to cover for three absent players for about seven minutes, and finishing the game shorthanded.

Denver Wins with Bonus Point
Clubs - Top Club Leagues

The Denver Barbarians improved to 4-3 in the Pacific Rugby Premiership as they defeated Olympic Club 34-20 in a snowstorm at Infinity Park in Glendale Saturday.

The Barbarians finally got the offensive explosion they wanted after two solid defensive efforts. Flanker Brendan Shea was a scorer for them once again, and fullback Max de Achaval and flyhalf Taylor Howden also touched down to stake Denver to a 19-6 halftime lead.

The half ended with Olympic Club right on the Denver line, and as O-Club struggled to get that elusive try, lock Tim Little was penalized and red-carded for a punch.

So Olympic Club played a man down for the entire second half, but kept playing, scoring two converted tries. But Denver got tries from Tom Pasque and Tyson Meek - starting for the first time at scrumhalf, Meek was a terror - and de Achaval added a penalty.

Along with Meek, Shea was solid all day, and sub prop Soane Leger was very active both in the rucks, on defense, and running the ball. On a slippery, snowy surface.

"We did well in a snowstorm," said Denver coach Lance French. "We got the bonus point, which is something we felt we needed, and it was a good, tough game."

Denver improves to 4-3 and is right in the mix among the top teams in the PRP. Olympic Club drops to 1-6 and will remain in 7th.
