Round one of the Women's All Star 7s Championship has concluded, and Pool B has turned out to be more competitive than Pool A. The collective point differential in pool A was 71 points, while pool B was 29.

The Stars & Stripes sports a young but very potent lineup. Twenty-one-year-old Bui Baravilala leads the team, and she put her international experience to good use with two tries and a conversion during her side's 19-0 win over the Midwest.

The USA 7s resident is joined by young 7s Eagles Meya Bizer and Rebekah Siebach, as well as high school standouts Megan Pinson, Asinate Serevi and Cassidy Meyers. The Midwest has their seasoned veterans in Sylvia Braaten, USA 7s resident Kaelene Lundstrum and Cristina Mastrangelo, but also has exciting youngsters in the Eastern Illinois trio of Lauren Doyle, Nia Williams and Maddison Kissner.

The Mid-Atlantic and West went toe to toe in the final game of round one. The MARFU team under coach Dana Creager benefits from drawing players from primarily two teams: NOVA and DC Furies. Only Amanda Street (Raleigh) breaks up the lineup. That connection helped MARFU to a 17-7 win over the West.

The West has their share of highlights - Hannah Stolba, Kitt Wagner, Sara Edwards from Glendale, for example.

USA 7s resident Lauren Hoeck put her side in front 12-0 thanks to two first-half tries and a converson. Megan Hanson added another five-pointer for the 17-0 cushion.

Deanna McGillivray (Atomic Sisters) prevented the shutout with a try in the 12th minute, and Stolba's conversion rounded out the scoring for the day.

The two undefeated teams - MARFU and Stars & Stripes - will face each other in round two, while the West and Midwest vye for their first victory.
