Open Combine for Mid-Atlantic 7s Team
Sevens - All-Stars

The Mid-Atlantic RFU Men’s 7s program is holding an open individual combine July 15 in Wilmington, Del., with former USA 7s team Head Coach Al Caravelli scouting talent for the USA National Team.

The MARFU Men’s 7s Coaching Staff will be picking 12 individuals to represent the territory at the National All-Star Championships.

The camp had over 70 individuals participate, with those 70 providing ten of the 12 players that represented the Mid-Atlantic in Chula Vista. In addition, Tim Acker was chosen for the All Americans and high schooler Peter Ondi played for the Northeast.  Several young players, including 17-year-old Akinola Raymond (Maryland Exiles) and 19-year-old Matias Cima (University of Maryland).

"The MARFU camp is a key way to help us identify players in the Mid-Atlantic region,” said USA 7s team Coach Alex Magleby, who asked Caravelli to scout for him. “Only a handful of teams from each region qualify for the national club 7s, so outside of the national championships this is the primary place to impress national team selectors and to play one's way onto the territory side, and hopefully a place in the national team. Along with increasing the knowledge and skill of the game of sevens throughout the region, we expect to see future Eagles at the camp."

At this year’s camp Caravelli, will be running the Individual Fitness Testing (10-meter sprint, 40-meter sprint, and yo-yo testing.) The camp will have several other qualified 7s coaches instructing players and evaluating individual talent. The MARFU Men’s 7s camp will give the players the opportunity to be evaluated by coaches from the USA Men’s 7s Team, USA All-American Men’s 7s Team, MARFU Men’s 7s Team, EPRU High School Boys’ 7s Team and the internationally recognized touring Men’s 7s side, Atlantis.

Also at this year’s camp, will be the EPRU High School All-Star Boys 7s Selectors: Jack Foley, Keith Cassidy, and Dan Currie who will be picking players to participate in the upcoming SurfSide 7s Tournament in Stone Harbor, NJ on July 21, 2012.

The Sevens Camp is open to any male rugby player registered in MARFU and/or USA. The individual must be CIPP registered with USA Rugby and have personal insurance. Any player under the age of 18 must have written permission by his parents and/or guardian.

Each individual player must sign a Waiver and Release of Liability and Assumption of Risk Form ("Waiver and Release").
