DI Women College Top 25 Oct. 27, 2009

(Shippensburg slips into the Top 25. Alex Goff photo)

Very little change in the women's Top 25 as most of the ranked teams did what was expected.

Of note, Army's freshman Anne Lee, who nailed 11 our of 11 conversions in her team's rout of an improving Vassar team.

Colorado State beat Air Force, which was ranked above them, so that has precipitated a change.

West Chester drops out after losing to Shippensburg, which comes in at #22.

Coming up, #1 and #2 Brown and Army play each other this weekend, finally, and we're excited to find out how that goes. And #3 Penn State plays at #5 Navy, so that could be a big game, too.

Then a week after that we have the Midwest and Northeast playoffs. The New England teams are annoyed because of the number of seeds New York State gets, so if you're from upstate New York, maybe you're hoping the New Englanders get put in their place. It is, at least, a chance for Syracuse, Cornell and Hamilton to show their stuff. Worth noting that at least one, and likely two of those New England teams will be from New York as well.

We talk about all this because playoff games give us the best indication of where a team is. Over the next two weeks we will see who can win when it matters.

10by2010, be thankful that any NYS club is even listed. A NYS club has made the sweet 16 once in its history (in 2000, Cornell, where they went 0-2). It's impressive that a small school - Hamilton -can beat Syracuse University, but realistically, your club is not one of the best 25 in the country.

I hate to burst the bubble, but it's really Penn State -----Stanford ----- everyone else.

I'm confused as to how Penn State isn't #1 despite the fact that they are reigning champs and no team has proven they can remotely hang with them on the pitch. Both teams "above" them have losses to lesser competition.

Dropping Hamilton 2 spots? You are aware they're the only team to beat Syracuse, right?
