Few surprises in the big playoffs this weekend, but there was one – Syracuse over Dartmouth. What can you say about a game that Dartmouth possibly should have won, and ended up losing by one point?
Is Syracuse truly better than Dartmouth? It’s hard to know based on that one game, but our mathematical formula has always ranked Syracuse highly. So we move Syracuse up a bit, and Dartmouth down a bit.
Now … should we bring in Brockport and St. Bonaventure because they were almost as good as Syracuse in the regular season (whoa there Tex, let’s not get carried away). Answer is no. Those teams didn’t produce the competitiveness in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile St. Mary’s jumps in with a defeat of the Santa Monica men’s club. SMRFC has hardly been on the pitch, but still a good result. UC Davis swept Cal Poly and UCSB, so they come in, as well. Rutgers, a team we really like, slips out, but we get the feeling they will be back next fall.
We are coming to the end of the RugbyMag rankings for 2009. After the first weekend of December we will take a break until January.
