The best DII rugby team not ranked may well be Davenport University. THe new varsity program won two over the weekend. The big news? They gave up their first points in their history as they beat Ferris State 87-7 and Michigan State 27-5.

Davenport coach Justin Hickey said it took a while for MSU and Davenport to get anything moving because of the wet conditions.

"It proved difficult to either team to put much running rugby together," Hickey said. "With a dry ball v. Ferris State things really clicked for us. We moved some guys around in the backline and it went very well."

Erin Hillary and Fray Hatfield both scored three against Ferris and one against Michigan State.

Other Midwest scores:
Loyola University 48-0 University of Chicago
Southern Illinois 34-0 Illinois State

Ninth-ranked West Virginia beat Slippery Rock 31-17 in a match delayed by traffic. The massive delay held up WVU and the ref, but all worked out in the end.

In the South, Georgia Tech won a challenging Georgia state title. Their toughest game was the semi against hosts Georgia Southern, won by Tech 8-5. But the final wasn't a cakewalk, with Tech downing Georgia 10-6.
