Kutztown University finally got on the field to play some competitive 7s this season and justified their preseason #1 ranking by winning all four games at the ACRL 7s in College Park, Md.

KU defeated NC State, Virginia Tech, and a late-replacement Motley side to win their pool, and then upended Navy 36-12 in the final.

“We’ve been at this since August,” said KU program Head Coach Gregg Jones. “The guys were really anxious to get on the field and compete.”

KU rested All American Tim Acker but got a big day from scrumhalf Robert Stortz, who is back from a reconstructed ACL and scored six tries.

“We’ve been working very hard on our cohesiveness and our unity as a team on and off the field,” said Jones. “We are building a good team here.”

"We're happy with the team performance," added coach Paul Presinzano. "We tested some individuals. It's always good to come away with a win, but our ultimate goal is targeting the qualifiers and getting to the national championships."

KU was bolstered by the player of freshman Wes Hartmann, and transfer talent Duke Makina.  Also big on the day was USA U20 player Cap Huizenga. All add skill, size, and physicality to the KU effort.
