The 2011 Ivy Rugby 7's Championship will be held at The Irish Cultural Centre in Canton, Mass, on Saturday November 5.
Collegiate Rugby Championship invitational winners Dartmouth will take on the other seven Ivy League schools in this action packed Saturday. Dartmouth will have 3 teams competing, with two teams in the Tier II competition along with B and C teams from Harvard, Brown, Columbia and Yale.
The Ivy 7s Championships are being hosted by The Boston Irish Wolfhounds and Harvard Rugby. The event will also be sponsored by Boathouse Sports, Royall Lyme and H2H. Admission is $5 at the gate, students and kids in for free. The Irish Culture Center is located at 200 New Boston Drive in Canton (zip code 02021-2825). The center can be reached by phone at (781) 821-8291.
Dartmouth is certainly considered the favorites, given that they won the 2011 CRC and won the Ivy League 15s season with relative ease. However, they are coming into the 7s competition without Nick and Chris Downer, seniors last year who led the 7s effort. Meanwhile Harvard, Brown and Princeton, especially, have some talent that could translate well onto the 7s arena.
In the Tier I competition, Dartmouth is in a pool with Columbia, Penn and Harvard.
In the other pool, Brown joins Cornell, Yale and Princeton.
