Sevens - Collegiate Sevens

The University of Tennessee claimed the Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference Olympic 7s with a 26-14 defeat of Florida in the final Saturday in Knoxville, Tenn.

The two teams were deadlocked 14-14 at halftime before Mason Howard went over to give the Volunteers a 21-14 lead. Tennessee scored in the closing moments as Florida pressed to equalize.

The victory came after both teams logged some impressive results in the knockout rounds. Florida, winners of Pool D, edged Georgia 19-12 and then battled past Arkansas 19-7. Meanwhile Tennessee was dominant. Throughout the tournament, they gave up only one try before the final, that in a 29-7 defeat of Mississippi State in pool play. They shut out Auburn in the quarters 34-0, and a solid LSU team 36-0 in the semis.


LSU edged Arkansas 21-19 in the consolation game.
