CRC Adds Five More Teams
The Collegiate Rugby Championship 7s tournament run by United World Sports has named five more teams who have received and accepted invitations to the June tournament at PPL Park in Philadelphia.
The University of Arizona returns for its fifth straight event, although the first time with longtime coach Dave Sitton, who died in August. According to tournament sources, Arizona has continued to perform well on and off the field, as well as producing several national team players, and continues to bring with it strong fan support.
Northeastern, which won the Bowl in 2013 at the CRC, returns in part because of its solid showing last year, and because the Boston-area school provides a Northeastern representative to the tournament.
South Carolina recruits heavily from the Philadelphia region and thus will field a team with a strong local connection. USC did not set the world alight in Pool Play in last weekend’s USA Rugby championship, but they did end up winning the Shield, winning their last three in a row and finishing 4-2. As an SEC representative, then, they are a competitive team.
Michigan. New to the CRC for 2014, Michigan is an up-and-coming Big 10 team that did well in 15s in that conference as Matt Trenary has done well in turning the program around. Michigan has a strong alumni base and fan following in athletics.

So far, the teams invited to the 2014 CRC are:
