OU Over OSU in Stillwater

Oklahoma University escaped from Stillwater with a rough 18-10 league victory over Oklahoma State Friday night.

OU was stymied regularly by a stiff OSU defense, but still never trailed in the match. Admonished by the ref early to allow clean ball in the rucks, both teams got into penalty trouble. For the Sooners, that meant three yellow cards, plus a red card for a dump tackle.

Even so, OU led 6-0 at halftime. Oklahoma State popped a penalty kick over to make it 6-3 early in the seocnd half before OU scored the first of two tries. OSU scored their only try to make it 11-10, but a late touchdown by Oklahoma sealed it.

Oklahoma State were even denied the close loss, as they ended the game knocking on the door.

"We weren't able to spread the ball like we wanted to," said OU head coach Ken Forehand. "But I'm proud of the boys for not panicking, being patient, and taking the points when they were on offer."

No. 8 Eric Meyers did a superb job keeping the team together and focused, and lock Nick Gaffney was also instrumental in OU's victorious effort.

The victory moves OU to 2-0 in the West RFU Central League, while OSU is 0-1.
