Diamantopoulos Takes Boston RFC Coaching Helm

Mike Diamantopoulos, who assisted Head Coach Eugene Mountjoy during the 2009 and 2010 Super League seasons while also acting as Head Coach for the 2009 Fall Division 1 season, has agreed to succeed Mountjoy as Boston Rugby's Director of Coaching.

He will be replacing Mountjoy, who has returned to his home nation of South Africa after taking Boston to a semifinal place in the 2010 USA Rugby Super League.

Diamantopoulos boasts plenty of experience at both the club and national level; he started his playing career at the University of Maine, and then moved on to DI clubs Mystic River and Worcester, leading the latter to the USA D1 Semifinals in 2003.

Diamantopoulos also began his coaching career at Worcester, helping lead the squad to another semifinal apperance in 2005.

From there, Diamantopoulos moved to Iowa to play with Pearl City, where he was a key part of their 2006 DII club championship team. He moved to the coaching duties with the club after their promotion ti DI, helping them to the national DI semis in 2008.

In 2006, Diamantopoulos also began his coaching involvement with the USA age-grade National Teams, assistant coaching the USA U18s until 2008.  He is currently serving as the Northeast Selector for the USA Collegiate Men's All-American Team.

Settled back in the greater Boston area in 2009, Diamantopoulos continued his coaching career as an assistant with Boston Rugby and Brown University Women's Rugby, who were DI semifinalists this season.

This season was also the most successful Super League season in Boston Rugby Club history, and Diamantopoulos will be asked to build on that as he takes the Director of Coaching position for the 2010-2011 season.  His first act as Director of Coaching was to name long time BRFC member and player Kevin Immonje as the 7s head coach.
