The Tampa Bay Krewe recorded a resounding win against visitors Daytona on Saturday in a game played in 30-degree weather at Krewe's Skyview Park.
The Krewe imrpove to 4-0 in the Florida DII club league. Led by No. 8 and captain Tyler Cathy, who scored four tries, the krewe dominated to win 93-0. This was also Tampa Bay's third shutout of the season and the fourth game in a row where the Tampa team has not allowed their opponents to cross for a try.
The Krewe have outscored their opponents 256-3 so far and look on course to challenge for the USA South playoffs again this season.
Next up for Krewe are Orlando which should be an intriguing match up between two coaches who know each other very well both on and off the field. Welshman Dai Morgan from Krewe and South African Jason Van Wyk from Orlando are the Rugby Academy of Florida's U20 coaches and work very closely on and off the field to develop young talent in Florida. They recently held a number of camps in Orlando and Boca Raton to prepare for their match against the Rugby Academy of Georgia, which was the curtain-raiser for the USA v Uruguay RWC qualifier in Lauderhill. The Florida team won 54-0.
"Both of us know each other's style of coaching and planning very well" joked Morgan. "Jason and his family stayed at my house over New Year's and he finally gave my Krewe play book back that he has had since the Georgia game!"
"I will have to change my line-out calls," returned Van Wyk, "as Taffy here knows where the ball is going to go!"
