Posting an undefeated record, Dartmouth was, far and away, the dominant team of the 2012 Ivy 7s Championship. In its five match march to the title, Dartmouth scored a total of 142 points, while conceding just 10. Dartmouth’s path to the final included preliminary round wins over Columbia (36-0), Harvard (36-0), and Princeton (24-5). Dartmouth then inflicted a 31-0 semifinal defeat on Brown. The Big Green went out to a 14-0 first half lead on tries by Madison Hughes and Wilson Chockley, both converted by Parker Gilbert. Dartmouth scored an additional 17 points in the second half on tries by Madison Hughes, Rex Littlefield and Pete Saverese. Parker Gilbert converted the final try, 31-0. Penn went 2-1 in preliminary round play, defeating Cornell (41-0) and Brown (19-12), while losing to Yale (10-12). Penn reached the final with a 28-21 semifinal win over Princeton. The first half of the final ended in a 5-5 deadlock. An unconverted opening try by Dartmouth’s Wilson Chockley was matched later in the period when Penn’s Sawyer Waugh touched down. Dartmouth took a 12-5 lead after intermission on a try by Neil Greene that Parker Gilbert converted. A drop goal by Dartmouth’s Madison Hughes brought the final tally to 15-5. On the day, Kevin Clark led the Big Green with five tries, all coming from at least 40 meters out. He was also instrumental in winning balls off the restart, taking five Dartmouth kicked balls. Madison Hughes had four tries, a conversion, and the decisive penalty in the final. Sophomore Wilson Chockley, getting the first A-side 7s action of his career this fall, had four tries as well. Dartmouth showed off the depth as well, with eight different players scoring.
