Shock Results Throw 7s Picture into Frenzy
Sevens - Club Sevens

While most of today's territorial finals and series finales are going according to expectations, a couple of results have thrown the national men's club 7s picture into confusion.

First off, Olympic Club, which had lost twice to SFGG this season, beat Golden Gate when it counted, edging them 17-12 in the Pacific Coast championship semis.

That means O-Club has qualified for nationals, and SFGG, which will host the event in two weeks, will not.

Even more interesting is what's going on in Southern California. There, the OMBAC 7s is the final of a three-tournament series where total points in all three tournaments picks the seeds to nationals.

Belmont Shore went in to OMBAC leading the standings by one over Old Aztecs, and certainly were expecting to make it to the semifinals. However, they lost 12-7 to Santa Monica in the quarterfinals, meaning they not only will be overtaken for 1st, they might not make the top three at all.

Meanwhile Santa Monica was on the outside looking in, two points out of the top three. Jumping into the semis could well vault them into a nationals spot. Certainly Santa Monica, Tempe, and Old Aztecs II are now all in play.
