Another Win for 1823
Sevens - Club Sevens

Columbus, Oh.-based 1823 won the Atlanta Midnight 7s to follow up their Larrimer Cup title a week before.

1823 has won two tournaments so far. Nanvy Trent photo.Head Coach Paul Holmes said he was happy with the progress the team made over the weekend and feels he has a strong squad to contend this season.

Charlotte and Georgia both pushed 1823 and Holmes said their defense was tested.

“We have a young team that still has some things to learn and get accustomed to during the year,” said Holmes. “We want to see patient aggression on defense.”
Luke Markovich and Dominic Mauer – the brother of USA 7s player Rocco – were solid for 1823. Markovich scored the winning try in the final.

Holmes complimented the Midnight 7s, saying it was one of the best-run tournaments he’s been to in a while. Winning didn’t hurt, either.

“I am very proud of the team’s effort and we’re looking forward to the tournaments to come and contending for a national title.”
