James Bay, Castaway and Burnaby Lake were all victorious this weekend in British Columbia. Bay, the number one team in the Premier League, kept in first-place tie with Burnaby Lake. Meanwhile, Castaway bested Premier League semifinal foe University of Victoria to keep their season on pace for defending their title.

As expected, James Bay AA took out Abbotsford RFC on Saturday 27-10; however the score didn’t exactly reflect the play on the pitch.

James Bay (3-0) didn’t look like the dominant team they had been the first two games. Moreover, Abbotsford showed a lot of fight against the number one team in the province. New comer Zac Coughlan made his presence know from the back row with his first Premier League try for Bay.

Bay also received the bonus point with tries from Hugo Belanger, Morgan Williams and Adam Drury. Pat Fraser made his debut for James Bay with seven points, kicking two conversions and a penalty.

Tied for first, JBAA goes on the road next week against Capilano RFC. Abby will continue their season against Meraloma RFC at home.

In a rematch of last year’s Premier League semifinal match, defending Rounsefell Cup champions Castaway Wanderers (2-1) proved too tough once again for the Victoria Vikings 28-27 at Windsor Park.

Although a come-from-behind win, Castaway managed to gain a slight edge in points department at the end lead by tries from Hubert Buydens, Andrew Tiedemann, Dylan Jones and Johnny Morris. However, it was the golden leg of flyhalf Matt Buckley that proved to be difference for Castaway with four conversions.

Castaway’s National-team front row dominated, but the Vikings backline showed no fear and kept Victoria much closer than anticipated having accounted for 22 of the teams 27 points.

Castaway will host the UBCOB (Ontario Bay) Ravens next week at home.

Burnaby Lake sent a message to the rest of their Canadian Direct Insurance Premier League opponents Saturday by blanking 2011 Lower Mainland champions Capilano 25-0.

Capilano had defeated Burnaby 20-11 in the Miller Cup Final in early December and left the runner-ups eight weeks to dwell on the loss. From the start of today's Premier League clash it was evident Burnaby were hungrier to set the records straight.

Burnaby got tries from Cole Macqueen, Evan Thomas and Adam Martin; while scrumhalf Geoff Ryan had the accuracy going with two conversions and three penalty kicks.

Burnaby Lake (3-0) takes on the University of Victoria Vikings next weekend at the home to try to keep their undefeated season alive.
