In the Northern Lights Conference, where teams keep beating up on each other at the top of the standings, one team made a statement Saturday in Minnesota-Duluth, which beat Winona 62-26. Going into the weekend, Winona, Northern Iowa, Duluth and North Dakota State were all 4-1 with wins over each other. But Duluth’s win was the most lopsided over any of those teams. Georgetown and East Stroudsburg lost, dropping out of the Top 25. East Stroudsburg falls off the list because the teams in the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference don’t have a tradition of making waves on the DII national stage, so even one loss in that league is going to be costly. Replacing ESU is Rowan, which is 6-0 in the MARC. Georgetown’s loss was to Towson, so a really good team. But that gives the Hoyas two losses on the season. Replacing Georgetown is Old Dominion, which upset Radford in Cardinals play to move to 2-0. This Saturday, No. 1 UW-Whitewater squares off against No. 5 UW-Stout and No. 3 Towson plays No. 2 Salisbury in the biggest DII weekend of the season. 1. The bottom half of the rankings got mixed up this week. The top half could be stirred next week.
