Men's DI College Top 25, April 19, 2011
Rankings - Men DI College

Bowling Green won its second-consecutive game over a ranked and Sweet 16-bound opponent, defeating Minnesota in the Midwest Championship, so they stay perched at No. 1, despite Davenport’s impressive blanking of Wisconsin in Madison.

Northern Colorado clinched a postseason berth by defeating New Mexico April 9th to finish their West-West season a perfect 6-0, and Oregon State punched its ticket to Santa Barbara with a win over Washington April 16. The Beavers won the inaugural NCRC with a 6-1 record. So now just one postseason berth remains unclaimed, and the winner of the inaugural Atlantic Coast Rugby League Championship, set for April 23rd in Charlotte, takes the bounty.

North Carolina, 6-0, and Maryland, 5-1, both won their way into the match since our last ranking. UNC did so with a massive beatdown of Georgia Tech, and Maryland with a close win over Virginia Tech and forfeit over Duke. UNC won its February meeting with Maryland, 23-20, so the first ACRL championship should be a good one.

While some teams are peaking for the playoffs, one, Florida State, is tanking. Their playoff hopes were dashed a couple weeks ago after a tie to Georgia, and they’ve since dropped back-to-back games to finish the season in lackluster fashion. They’re still a very talented side, but having nothing to play for can help complacency or apathy set in. One has to wonder, if the Seminoles had accepted the offer to compete in the ACRL, would they still be playing for the postseason?

Buffalo's slide to 14 may seem like an overreaction, but it's been a long time since UB bagged a big victory. Minnesota had to leapfrog them because they played Bowling Green considerably closer, and Maryland, Northeastern and Oregon State keep winning. Buffalo's second place finish to Binghamton in the SUNY Tournament didn't help their cause, either.

This is the last ranking we'll run until after the Rounds of 16 and eight April 30-May1.
