(This originally ran as a premier story on April 9)
Only three ranked teams lost over Easter weekend, and all of them drop.
Wake Forest, ranked No. 25 last week, topples out of the rankings after losing 39-7 to Maryland, Sacramento State slips one spot after losing a close one to Santa Clara in the de facto Northern California championship game, and Texas slides three spots after being pounded at home by Wisconsin.
Replacing Wake Forest at No. 25 is Iona. They've been quiet this spring, but did win their bracket at the Beast of the East tournament. They finished second in the Empire East to Stony Brook in the fall. They take on No. 10 St. Bonaventure in the Empire semifinals Saturday.
Jumping Sacramento State is Wisconsin, which won two matches on their southern tour against quality opponents in impressive fashion. The Badgers beat Arkansas last week and drilled Southwest champs Texas Saturday.
Indiana, Missouri and Minnesota all benefit from Texas' lopsided loss in Austin. Indiana was the only one of those teams active over Easter weekend, beating the Indianapolis Impala men's club. Minnesota hasn't played any 80-minute matches against college opponents this spring, but they were impressive in the Wayne State tournament and have faired well against men's teams.
Despite winning, UCSB, SDSU, Oregon State, Maryland and Santa Clara didn't do enough to hurdle anyone above them in the rankings.
That could change next week, as the Pacific Mountain West, Empire, Southeastern, South Independent and Ivy league all have their playoffs or championship matches Saturday and/or Sunday.
