East Stroudsburg and the College of New Jersey advanced to the Eastern Penn semifinals Saturday with wins over Villanova and Lafayette, respectively. Both receive bids to the spring Mid-Atlantic playoffs. Who gets the top seed will be determined next Saturday when they meet in the EPRU finals.

East Stroudsburg, who finished the EPRU regular season undefeated, got off to a slow start against Villanova. The Wildcats scored first and held East Stroudsburg to a relatively low-scoring first half, but a three-try run in in the second quarter of the game put East Stroudsburg up for good.

“Our pack really mauled against them very well,” said ESU captain Charlie Batikha. “We had three or four mauls where we drove them for 25 yards, 40 yards, and then we’d get the ball out to the wing and the wing would just put it in.”

The College of New Jersey allowed just one try in its 40-7 defeat of Lafayette, setting up a rematch with ESU. East Stroudsburg beat the College of New Jersey 27-19 in October.
