Rocky Gorge overcame an early 7-0 deficit against the Eastside Banshees, and then ran away with it in the second half to win 48-12. Like many playoff games on Saturday, the two did not score in the early going. At 16 minutes Eastside center Chris Edwards ran in for a try. Mike Schatz made the conversion for the 7-0 lead. But almost from the restart Rocky Gorge replied. Center Derek Chell ran in and with Andrew Kendall's try, the teams were tied. But not for long. Flyhalf Pete Ressler's try put Rocky Gorge ahead, and eight minutes later, the #10 did it again. Gorge finished the first half with a try from flanker Mike Meehan, and the Maryland club led 24-7 at halftime. Gorge scored four more times to put the game away 48-12. There was plenty of drama in the other game in the bracket. Montauk's Michael Bunce scored with a minute left to cap a 13-point surge to tie Naples. Montauk opened the scoring at four minutes with a try from Stephen Turze, who had come on as a sub for the injured fullback Zachary Brenneman a minute before. Naples replied at 18 minutes with a try from flyhalf Ryan Shore. Shore then added two penalty kicks to put his side ahead 11-5 at halftime. The Florida team extended their lead in the second half when center Ed Bayer scored a try that Shore converted. That made it 18-5. But in the final 15 minutes Montauk found their scoring touch. Flyhalf Gordon Trotter touched down, and after Daniel Ramirez hit a penalty, Bunch finished off a period of pressure to make it 18-18. On to overtime. The two teams prepared for two ten-minute halves. Nearing the end of the first half, Shore slotted a goal, but two minutes later Peter Grabowski's penalty locked the scores at 21-21. It wasn't until time was essentially up in the second half of overtime that Matt Brierly scored for Montauk, giving the New York team a dramatic comeback win.
