After a two-game weekend for the top teams, the MetNY DII club league managed to finish its season. Montauk had 1st place sewn up, and because of that a bye to the Northeast semifinals. Nut the other two playoff spots were still wide open going into Sunday’s play. After Bayonne edged Danbury 20-17 on Saturday and Union beat Lansdowne, Bayonne, Danbury and Union were all tied with 22 standings points. That left only the games called because of weather on October 29. Those were played Sunday. On Sunday, Union faced off with Danbury, winning 44-20. “Union was very strong in the breakdown and forced a lot of turnovers,” said Danbury Head Coach Scott Marinich. “It was tough playing two games in two days, but Union had to do it, as well. We played well this season, but in the end we feel we missed some opportunities.” And so they did as Bayonne beat Princeton 34-17 to eliminate Danbury, and take 2nd on points difference.
So that sets up next week's Northeast playoffs. The final is played November 20. |
