Cal Poly started their 2013 campaign off well with a 43-17 defeat of UC Davis Saturday in Davis, Calif.

In a tough, physical game, the two teams were relatively close early on. The teams traded scores throughout the first half.

UC Davis started the second half with a nicely-taken team try, but after that the Mustangs started to take control. A driving maul led to a try for Cal Poly hooker Pat McCreesh, and then the backs started to ignight, with fullback Alex Frost and outside center Max Tacket scoring twice each.

“It did take us a little longer than we would’ve liked to get into the match, but once we did we put together some great quality rugby,” said freshman flyhalf Taylor Honnette.
