SEC Conference Wrapup
Colleges - Men's DI College

Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference play rolled on Saturday with two massive blowouts and one squeaker.

LSU and Tennessee scored the blowouts over Mississippi State and Kentucky, respectively. The Tigers blanked the Bulldogs 85-0 , and the Vols crushed the Wildcats 91-3.

Tennessee and LSU’s wins keep them both undefeated and atop their respective divisions.

Tennessee coach Andy Allen was pleased with his team's performance overall. "We were able to run our pattern and take care of business," he said, "that's all we were looking for."

The close game saw Alabama beat Ole Miss 17-16 in the final minute. The Crimson Tide and Rebels were deadlocked, 5-5, at halftime of their thriller, and Ole Miss led 16-12 with little time left on the clock after slotting two second-half penalties and dotting down one second-half try.

Alabama went on the attack in its final possession and was awarded a penalty near Ole Miss’s 22-meter line. After turning the ball over just five meters from pay dirt, the Crimson Tide took its penalty advantage and crashed the ball into the heart of the Ole Miss defense before spinning it wide to reserve wing Ben Meinjohans for the game-winning try.

“They played very, very well,” said Alabama coach Mark Seitz of Ole Miss, “but our pack definitely dominated them, our rucking was a lot better, and we were just able to capitalize on the tries.”

With the win, Alabama improves to 2-2 just a year after moving up from DII and a couple of more removed from DIII.

"We’ve not been really serious about rugby in the division three and really even DII. The competition wasn’t great enough for us to be making a gain year after year," said Bama coach Mark Seitz.

"Now, we feel we do have a good enough squad and go have good enough numbers…Stepping up over the last four eyars from DII has made our depth a lot better."

The Georgia vs. Auburn game scheduled for Saturday was postponed due to weather.
