Bowling Green Makes Statement With Win
Colleges - Men's DI College

Dominic Mauer in action against UBTop-ranked DI college Bowling Green State University handed #6 University of Buffalo a 51-5 defeat in a friendly in Cleveland.

Playing under sunny skies but with a stiff wind that kept temperatures only in the high 20s, both teams were hoping to make a statement early in the still young spring season.

After spending the first ten minutes probing each other's defenses, the Falcons opened the scoring with a hard charging try from center Dominic Mauer and then kept up a steady assault on the Bulls' goal line. Hooker Mike Brown, NO. 8 Kyle Bonek and wing Max Narewski all scored tries for Bowling Green while flyhalf Nick Viviani's two conversions and a penalty kick put the Falcons ahead 27-0 at halftime.

BG picked up tries by flanker Tim Moody, wing Jon Bill, lock Ed Luther and a second try by Mauer. Viviani added a pair of conversions to close out the 51-5 victory.

"The first half we were very efficient, we played to the conditions and kept the ball tight. In the second half we got away from what was working and tried to force plays that weren't there. That ended up creating a twenty minute gap where we weren't very productive," said Bowling Green Head Coach Tony Mazzarella.
