Clemson moved to 1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Rugby League with a convicning 34-10 win over Wake Forest Friday evening.

"It was a good win for our program tonight," said Clemson Head Coach Justin Hickey. "There has been some really good momentum this year with this team and the motivation to get back to being the competitive team Clemson once was. The guys deserved this win tonight for all of the hard work they have put in in the fall and this preseason."

Hickey tipped his hat to Wake Forest, who played tough.

Forest had the majority of ball in the game, but tended to have it in their half, meaning anytime there was a turnover, Clemson punished Wake harshly.

But, Hickey said, it's just a start for the Tigers.

"We know we need to be better, and quickly," he said. "UNC is going to be quite a test next week. We'll enjoy this one over the weekend and immediately direct our focus to the Tarheels on Monday."

This is the first game for Clemson and Wake in the new ACRL, which mirrors the Atlantic Coast Conference in NCAA sports, but isn't officially afilliated with the conference.

"The ACRL is a great example for college rugby in the US," said Hickey. "It's a pleasure to be a part of this league with such great coaches and schools with such rich tradition. We're very much looking forward to the rest of the season."
