University of San Diego cast aside UC Irvine 45-5 Friday night in San Diego.

The game was moved to Friday because of anticipated bad weather on Saturday. The players handled the change with aplomb and put forth a good match, but it was pretty much all USD.

Irvine was under pressure a great deal and even when they kicked to relieve said pressure, found the USD threequarters running back down their throats.

"We spread the ball well," said USD Head Coach Jim Wilson. "We moved it from sideline to sideline, made good choices, and I thought the guys were very quick to the breakdown."

Wilson said he was especially pleased with his team's rucking, which allowed the backs to play with such width.

The win puts USD right in the mix in Southern California's DI league at 3-1 with 14 standings points, just a hair behind 3-2 Loyola and 3-0 UC Santa Barbara.

UCSB is San Diego's next opponent.

"Yes we have to go up to Santa Barbara next weekend," said Wilson. "They haven't let anyone come within 30 points of them, so it will be tough."
