The University of San Diego won the San Diego City Championship this weekend, defeating San Diego State, UC San Diego, and Point Loma Nazarene in a round-robin tournament. USD upset San Diego State 21-7, and then defeated UCSD and Point Loma by identical scores of 17-7. “I don’t know the last time USD won the City Championships but I am so proud of the effort by everyone,” said USD Head Coach Jim Wilson. “It will sound cliché but I have to say all three wins were team wins. In the SDSU game everyone stepped up when they had to. The forwards played one of the best games I have ever seen them play and the back took advantage of the opportunities when they were offered.” Inside center Osayaba Godwin Ona-Enagbare scored two long-range tries, both times beating multiple defenders. After thanking assistant coaches Carlos Guerrero, Andrew Castel and Jeff Sparks, Wilson looked ahead for his team’s season. |
