The San Diego Old Aztecs slammed the Back Bay Sharks 73-7 Saturday in the only DI club match in Southern California.
The game was notable in that the result bolstered the playoff hopes of the Old Aztecs, only promoted form DII this season. San Diego is now 3-3, one standings point behind Los Angeles and OMBAC. They have a game in hand over LA.
Back Bay dropped to 1-6.
The game was also notable as the first 15-a-side game for USA 7s team star Carlin Isles. The diminutive, speedy wing came on as a sub with about 30 minutes to go, showed some tenacious defense, and scored a try.
Latest, unofficial standings. The top four teams make the playoffs, with the top two playing at home.
