Belmont Shore remains undefeated in the Southern California DI league after pasting the San Diego Old Aztecs 69-15 Saturday.

Led by a Man of the Match performance by No. 8 Eric Duechle, and with the backs clicking nicely, Shore overcame a series of issues at the breakdown - issues that led to about 20 penalties called by ref Karen Fong.

"It ended up I think being a coach vs. referee interpretation," said Belmont Shore Head Coach Ray Egan. "We had trouble with the referee's interpretation, and we just struggled with what as going on on the floor."

Meanwhile the Old Aztecs posed some difficulties of their own.

"They were very good running inside balls off #10," said Egan. "And that challenged us quite a bit. We were in our half most of the game, and we kept giving up penalties. But when we got into their half we scored, and we kept the scoreboard ticking over and I was happy about that."

Duechle was a handful himself, running extremely well off the base of the scrum. Egan said No. 8 suits the former Air Force Academy standout, as he runs well with the ball.

"What he's learning is when to recognize that he's shut down and he should offload," said Egan. "He's getting better at that, but he really got us going forward."

Duechle scored two tries and Sinapati Uiagalelei also was prominent in the scoring.

Kameron Moeller had a strong game at flyhalf for Shore, while Eddie McKenna continued his run of form.

Meanwhile, OMBAC won big 52-15 over Back Bay. This was a crucial bonus-point victory for the San Diego team as they look to climb out of an early-season hole. Santa Monica solidified their 2nd place position with a 45-24 victory in the windy in Las Vegas.
