Shore Shakes Off LA
Clubs - Men's DI Clubs

Rain forced the postponement of two DI club league games in Southern California, but one game did get played, as Belmont Shore edged a tenacious Los Angeles club 18-14 in a muddy, wet game in LA.

Los Angeles led at halftime and were never out of it, but two tries from Sinipati Uiagalelei and a conversion and two penalties from fullback Geoff Pound saw Shore home.

“It was a tough game,” said Belmont Shore flanker Eric Duechle. “We’re not used to playing in the rain and the field was really muddy. We put them under a lot of pressure and kept the ball mostly in their half, but we couldn’t punch it in. LA played great defense.”

After taking the lead late, Shore had to ride out the final tense moments.

“In the last five minutes, we knew one big break could win the game for them, so it was pretty intense at the end,” said Duechle. “But we stuck to our game plan and I think that made the difference. It was a fun game to play.”

Belmont Shore is now 4-0, while LA drops to 1-2, but with a close-loss bonus point moves up from 6th to 4th.
