The game against the Barbarians was expected to be concentrated in the forwards, and all about the physicality. With little room the move either the packs took it up or the backs resorted to kicking downfield. Both worked better for Sacramento than the Barbarians. A yellow card to the Barbarians early in the game gave the Lions an attacking platform, but the Barbarians held them off from the line. Moments later, though, Epeli Ulviviti made the first kick at goal as the Barbarians were penalized (as they would be much of the day) diving into the ruck. The 3-0 scoreline remained unchanged until late in the half when the Lions found a hole in the defense to score the first try. Mika Dreu made the conversion and one more as the Lions earned another quick try before the half expired. From the opening whistle in the second half the Barbarians were determined to move the ball. As both teams punched forward after forward into the defense, both teams were asked to meet the onslaught with physical tackling. Neither team made significant advantage until the 60-minute mark, when Wayne Koi found a hole to score for the Lions. This momentum seemed to ignite the Sacramento team, as John Finau, Tevita Polaulu, and Nemani Volavola all ran in tries to finish the score at 48-0. Also in NorCal, SFGG defeated the up-and-coming San Mateo club 36-34, showing that SFGG's DI side means business. East Palo Alto Razorbacks defeated a rebuilding Sacramento Capitals 63-24. Olympic Club took on SFGG's Super League squad, and lost. They will play the EPA Bulldogs next week while all other teams take the weekend off.
