Sac Lions Split Doubleheader
Clubs - Men's DI Clubs

Sacrament, in stripes, v. EPA Saturday.
It was a busy day in Northern California as the Sacramento Lions got a rematch versus the East Palo Alto Razorbacks in the first game of a doubleheader.

The game kicked off at eleven o’clock with both teams eager to maintain ball position and field possession. EPA used the box kick to pin the Lions back, but the Sacramento defense, especially up front, was solid.

Unlike the previous week with high scores and fast moving ball, this week was a hard-hitting defensive game. The first try of the game came from Lions Josh Vavao.  The Lions picked up a second try as the team took advantage of a quick penalty. It appeared the Lions would hold the Razorbacks scoreless until a penalty was called and the Lions were busy questioning the whistle as the Razorbacks were scoring a try. The Razorbacks were held on several more attacks and caused the final penalty near the goal allowing the Lions to make a final kick at goal to win the game 17-7.

After a short break the Lions faced San Mateo.  These two teams had not seen each other since early January at Tournament in Sacramento held by the Lions, when the Lions claimed victory.  It was obvious from the kick off that San Mateo started off with fresh legs.  From the kickoff San Mateo was focused on defense, swinging the ball wide, and punching holes in tight.  On each play they gained territory and tested the Lions defense.  As the Sacramento team was able to reset their squad and find pace they were able to take a narrow lead.  However, the second wind was short lived as San Mateo prevented a last minute try opportunity and grabbed the final interception to defeat the Lions 36 to 24.
