Tonga Fanueli's first-half penalty goal proved to be the only scoring as Potomac Athletic Club defeated the Pittsburgh Harlequins at Founders Field in the Steel City. 

With a good home crowd and moments of sunshine and blue skies, the Harlequins battled for 80 minutes while the visiting team from Washington, DC held on to their tenuous 3-0 lead to win and remain undefeated.

Potomac, coming off four straight decisive victories and averaging over 30 points more than their opponents so far this season, took the field with confidence Saturday afternoon. The first half presented plenty of opportunities for the visitors, playing predominantly in the Harlequins end. Two missed penalty attempts, as well as countless denied attacks at the line left both teams scoreless twenty minutes into the game.

With thirteen minutes left in the half, referee Steve Shilling awarded a penalty to PAC right in front of the posts, which Fanueli duly slotted.

The balance of the remaining 50 minutes saw the Harlequins continually try to attack the PAC line, and PAC able to rebuff them.

It was not a flowing match, Shilling was active with the whistle. Ts the teams were called for a total of 32 penalties on the afternoon.

The Harlequins battled down to the tryline on five separate occasions, only to be turned back. Three attempts to tie the game with penalty kicks all sailed wide, and a last-minute surge by the Quins was unable to garner any points.

It was a tough loss for Pittsburgh, which is now 4-2 but gets a bonus point for a close loss - their second of the season as they also lost to Schuylkill River 14-13 September 24.

The Harlequins will take on Baltimore-Chesapeake next weekend to finish their home season before traveling to Norfolk and Maryland in the following weeks.

PAC visits Raleigh and then hosts Baltimore-Chesapeake November 5. Their final game of the fall is November 19 at Schuylkill River.
