Life to Face Bermuda National Team
International - International News

A Life University team that combines top players from their club squad and their undergraduate collegiate squad will face off against Bermuda Saturday at 2pm in Marietta, Ga. as a fall warmup for the Running Eagles and a run-out for Bermuda in advance of a Rugby World Cup qualifier in two weeks.

Bermuda will be in a RWC qualification game Setpember 29, most likely against Paraguay.

"This is the closest they can get to a good warmup game and we are happy to have them," said Life Director of Rugby Dan Payne. "We're going to give them a tough game and host them, and we'll be cheering for them when they play Paraguay."

Payne will put out a mixed college/seniors side of his best players. Chris Headlee is expected to anchor the forwards with All American Can Dolan in the back row. Benny Mateialona, who is in excellent form, will be at halfback.

"Why we wanted to schedule these types of matches in September to get that rung of players - players just below national team level - live matches," said Payne.

The teams will operate under the old scrum cadence, because that was what was in place when the qualifier series began. Bermuda wants to run out extra subs, and that's just fine with Payne.

"We want to win the game, but win or lose, the key thing is to get as many guys some live-fire experience," added Payne.
