NYAC Defeats Boston at Remembrance Cup

The NYAC beat Boston 43-19 in the 9th Annual Remembrance Cup Saturday.

Today marked the launching of NYAC’s Play Rugby USA youth program, with 70 kids playing flag rugby. Players from both the NYAC and Boston clubs helped out with the kids.

In the Remembrance Cup game itself, both teams played expansive running rugby, with NYAC running in six tries, including two each from Alex Willen and Gareth Gibbs.

Sevens - Collegiate Sevens

The University of Tennessee claimed the Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference Olympic 7s with a 26-14 defeat of Florida in the final Saturday in Knoxville, Tenn.

The two teams were deadlocked 14-14 at halftime before Mason Howard went over to give the Volunteers a 21-14 lead. Tennessee scored in the closing moments as Florida pressed to equalize.

The victory came after both teams logged some impressive results in the knockout rounds. Florida, winners of Pool D, edged Georgia 19-12 and then battled past Arkansas 19-7. Meanwhile Tennessee was dominant. Throughout the tournament, they gave up only one try before the final, that in a 29-7 defeat of Mississippi State in pool play. They shut out Auburn in the quarters 34-0, and a solid LSU team 36-0 in the semis.


LSU edged Arkansas 21-19 in the consolation game.

U Minn to Host RugbyDayMinnesota

On Saturday, October 8, the University of Minnesota Recreational Sports Department, the U f M Men’s Rugby Team, and TCF Bank Stadium will host a rugby event unlike anything Minnesota has seen - RugbyDayMinnesota. The Gophers rugby team will take on University of Wisconsin-Madison in a rivalry match with decades of history.

The match will be held at the TCF Bank Stadium in front of an estimated crowd of five thousand students, alumni, professors, parents, youth players, and fans. It's expected to be the largest crowd for a rugby game in Minnesota history.

The idea is to make it a community even that raises awareness of the excitement and traditions of rugby.
